Winter Fly Fishing Trips

Guiding All-Year-Round

Winter fly fishing is at its finest in Sun Valley, Idaho. For decades, our beloved home has been famous for skiing, and most people were under the impression that we only had skiing in the winter. But now the secret is out: we fish in the winter too. And when the daytime temperatures rise, so do the fish! The Big Wood River and the Big Lost River are the primary winter fisheries. Both rivers offer great nymphing opportunities on any given day, but when the temperature rises to just above freezing or higher, the dry fly action heats up. Midges are the most prolific hatch, but a few baetis can be found in the early spring. So the next time you come to Sun Valley for skiing, remember to bring your rod and stop by the shop to find out where the best fishing is for that day. Check out our rates here!
