Our Story
Lost River Outfitters is Ketchum’s friendly mom-and-pop fly shop and outfitter, located in the world-famous resort area of Sun Valley, right on Ketchum’s Main Street.
Scott Schnebly realized his dream of becoming an outfitter in 1984 and was joined by his partner in life, Susanne Connor, in 1998.
Every member of the Lost River family is passionate about fly fishing in all its forms, and their enthusiasm for the sport becomes immediately evident when you walk through our doors.
It doesn’t matter if you need advice on fly choices, want to learn a new knot, seek fly-tying or casting advice, or need help with equipment—no task is too large or small. We are here to help you!
We pride ourselves on being friendly and helpful, and many of our clients come in just to shoot the breeze.
Our store is also staffed with friendly and knowledgeable guides who have fished everything from steelhead in British Columbia and tarpon in Key West to bonefish in South Andros and sea-run trout in Argentina. Their knowledge of our guide waters and trout is unsurpassed.
What sets us apart from “the other guys” is that we turn your guide trip into an adventure you will always remember. From the stunning scenery, solitude, wildflowers, and wildlife to the great fishing and homemade streamside lunches, our guides will tailor your trip to your specific needs and desires.
Our shop is stocked with all the equipment and clothing needed to make any Sun Valley trip a complete success, and our long summer hours mean you can shop before or after you play!
Whether you are planning a trip to the Sun Valley area centered around fishing or are coming here to participate in the many other activities, be sure to visit Lost River Outfitters!
Scott Schnebly, Owner and Founder of Lost River Outfitters
Scott has been guiding trips and adventures in the Wood River Valley and beyond since 1974. Along with his love for fly fishing and hauling in impressive catches, he finds joy in gardening, hunting, and spending time with his family, including his daughter, Brett; son, Blake (pictured below); and grandchildren—all with his loyal dog by his side. His commitment to the outdoors and hands-on approach make every visit to Lost River Outfitters a memorable experience. Scott’s enthusiasm for the sport and dedication to his craft are evident in every detail of the shop and on the smiling faces of his friends and clients alike.
We work and play in the spirit of Susanne, who is and always will be, the guiding light for the legacy of Lost River Outfitters.
Susanne Welke Connor was a vibrant soul whose love for nature and joy in sharing it were boundless. From her German roots to the beautiful Wood River Valley, she embraced life with so much joy, love and passion—whether soaring in gliders, skiing, or guiding at Lost River Outfitters. Her warmth and exuberance touched many as she generously inspired and guided those around her to explore new horizons. Susanne's spirit of adventure and kindness continues to inspire us all, reminding us to embrace life with the same grace and joy she radiated.
