Our fishing trips to Yellowstone Park have grown very popular in the last five years. This fall 2008 we will have 10 groups taking more than 100 guide trips with us. These trips are three to five days of fishing. In June we concentrate on the waters of the west side of Yellowstone, the Madison, the Firehole, the Gibbon, Duck Creek, sometimes the Gallitan and some smaller tributaries of these rivers, fishing for browns and rainbows. We base from Cabins in West Yellowstone, Montana. By July most rivers in the Park are fishable, but September is our favorite in the N. E. corner of Yellowstone Park. We fish the Yellowstone, the Lamar, Slough Creek, Soda Butte, Trout Lake, and occasionally some smaller tributaries, fishing for cutthroat and rainbows. We base from Cabins in Silver Gate, Montana, one mile outside the N.E. entrance. By late September and October the Madison and Gibbon Rivers receive a spawning run of Browns and with the cooler fall waters offer good fishing from West Yellowstone once again.
Our price structure for these trips differs from our trips in the Wood River Valley. The client is responsible for guide expenses away from home. That includes transport to and from the Park, lodging if applicable, and breakfast and dinner expense. We have been fortunate for the last seven years to arrange free lodging for the guides at the Silver Gate Cabins, if we continue to book our clients into their cabins. Cabins have kitchen facilities and many evenings are spent cooking in and planning for the next day. A short distance away in Cooke City there is a very good restaurant, the Beartooth Cafe, for dining out. The Log Cabin Cafe just across the street from the Silver Gate Cabins, is also very good, and open until September 15.
Our guide fees in the park are all full days and are $450/day for guides $475/day for the outfitter. This slight increase helps offset some of the extra time spent organizing trips, hauling equipment, and grocery supplies and helps compensate for the longer days spent on the rivers of the Park.
If you are interested in one of our excursions to Yellowstone please give us more than six months to plan for you. Lodging is the issue. There are limited rooms that fit both yours and our needs and they need to be booked well in advance. It is one of the great fishing experiences in the world, in some of the most spectacular country you can imagine. Bookings can be arranged by calling Lost River Outfitters, Ketchum, Idaho at 208-726-1706 or Scott Schnebly cell 208-720-3813 or Susanne Connor cell 208-720-1994.
