Week of January 8, 2008
South Fork of the Boise
No reports. If you venture over I would fish nymphs and streamers and be careful traveling into the canyon with the recent snowfall
Yellowstone Park
Closed.
Mountain Lakes
No thanks, not now.
Big Wood River
Closed March 15
Big Lost River
Closed March 31
The Big Lost is similar to the Big Wood right now. Fished in the afternoon with zebra nymphs in green and black and size 12 stonefly nymphs.
Little Wood River (Desert)
Ice.
Silver Creek
Closed February 28
Streamers are best. Wooley buggers and Philo Bettos with splits or bead heads. It was frozen in the open fishing areas last week. Warmer temps this week end should open it up again.
Carey Lake
Fish the open water at the hot springs with prince nymphs below and indicator. All the blue gill you can catch. Some bass and perch as well. When they start hitting your indicator, try a foam anything in size 10 or 12 or small popper. Great entertainment.
Salmon River
Steelhead are hunkered down. Probably wait for a few days above 32 degrees and maybe even mid February. A decent run of 156,000 fish made Idaho. Our Spring fishing should be good.
Closing Notes
Fish far and fine,
